Luma gives discarded copper a new life

Developed through close observation of the Hot Wire Extensions process.

When copper is exposed to high temperatures, layers of oxidation begin to form, creating a striking and unpredictable patina. In Luma, this effect is intentionally applied by hand using a direct flame, turning the surface into a vibrant index of transformation.

    From digital visualisation and planning on Rhino

  • Assembly

    To a hand crafted product.

  • Material finish

    Exposing scrap sheets ,from a local roofing company ,to direct flame oxidation for a striking patina.

  • Assembly

    Drilling sheets for assembling them through bolts and nuts.

  • Brazing

    Tin wire to bond scarp copper pipes sourced from the Hot Wire Extensions studio.

  • Cabling

    Cabling structure. Cross shape, fixed from the sides.

  • Custom bolts

    Cutting bolts to custom dimension.

  • Bolts detail

    Yellow zinc bolts to bond sheets and match the oxidation finish

  • Final design

    The final design features a pivoting shade, giving the piece and anthropomorphic feeling. Waste material coming back to life.
